Nearly 4 has its ups and downs. Thomas’s ability to absorb information and make logical connections amazes us, amuses us and frustrates us. And then sometimes he melts into an incoherent puddle of frustration and noise.

At 5am, Thomas woke in a pee-fug, radiating heat and misery. His excitement at Granny’s arrival seems to have reached a literal fever-pitch. I settled into his bed, holding his hand and feeling his breath gradually deepen.
