Eating at our favourite Indian Chaat restaurant, we were talking about our trip to India. Thomas announced that he remembered it, a good few years before he was even a twinkle in our eyes.

“Do you remember before you were born?”
“Yes. I didn’t know where I were.”
“And now?”
“Now I know that I’m here.”

With us standing right next to the railway tracks, the Amtrak train slammed by.

“Bye bye, choo choo,” Theo says waving and impressing us with the double utterance.

“Lou[d], ear,” he then started crying and holding his ears, dazzling his parents with his prowess. For another TWENTY minutes, the whole way home. I’m afraid that it made us laugh. It was like a record stuck on repeat.

As it turns out, a picture with “Wum” written on it. “I did it all by myself, Mummy,” Thomas whispers in my ear.

Unless it was Thomas holding Theo’s hand to take him to the park. Or both of them going down the slide together.

We were invited for an impromptu BBQ.

‘That was like a very little party, Mummy,” sighed Thomas happily.

“And it was a very speshul day, ’cause I saw barbed wire for the very first time.”

Henry, Thomas and Max have decided that they are too cool to smile for the camera.

It’s nearly 70 degrees, Thomas is nekkid in the sunshine and busy mixing sand, leaves, flowers and water. There is much pouring and stirring and patter, patter, patter as he goes inside to fill his teapot again.

“Mummy, I’m just lookin’ at the chem’cals in here.”

Theo dancing.

He moves his arms. He bends his knees and grooves, slowly to the music. His tongue is usually sticking out. And he stops when he realizes he is being watched.

But it’s wonderful to behold, even in glimpses.

Thomas and I were having a slight disagreement over the size of the cookie he wanted.

Me: “If you whine, I’m just going to take it away.”
Thomas calmly replies, “But first, can I eat it?”
